Working together to make life better

I believe that for therapy to be successful it must take place in a relationship which is safe, respectful, supportive, honest and at times playful. I also believe
that whenever possible, the therapeutic approach used is based on good research evidence as to its effectiveness. I will do my best to fulfill these principles, and expect you to work with me to help make your and or your child's life better.

Therapy sessions are usually 45 minutes long. The most important time for change is what you do over the rest of the week. Most sessions will include homework we will plan and agree on to be done between sessions. Often, these homeworks will be a challenge, but never more of a challenge than you feel you can accomplish. Much of our work together will be building gradually on these homeworks.

I recognize my duty to protect your privacy and release information to other individuals or organizations only with your written permission unless otherwise required by law.    Current law requires me to provide information in the following situations:
a. When abuse or neglect of a minor child or incapacitated adult is suspected
b. When the individual is seen as a serious threat to themselves or others or real property.
c. When ordered by a court
d. When you have waived certain rights when contracting for insurance coverage of my services

Parents (even non-custodial parents) have a right, with some limitations, to access and authorize release of information on their minor child’s treatment.  A parent participating in their child’s treatment does not have a separate right to confidentiality.

Information on couples treatment will only be provided with the consent of all the adults who participated in treatment except as noted above.

Some billing and other information may be transmitted electronically to your insurance company. I cannot guarantee the confidentiality of such communications.

By the end of our third session we will have a discussion which will include diagnosis, assessments made, recommendations for treatment, why these recommendations are being made and the risks and benefits of this treatment, of treatment alternatives and of doing nothing.  You are encouraged at all times to ask whatever questions you may have about the course of your treatment.  It is important for you to realize that no treatment can be guaranteed effective and that as treatment progresses we will both need to be continually evaluating our progress and moving forward only with your informed consent.

My usual fee is $100 per 45 session unless I have contracted a different fee with your insurance company.

Payment or co-payment for the session is expected at the time of the session.  Please call your insurance company ahead of time to determine your co-payment and to find out if you have a deductible to meet.  If your insurance company requires a preauthorization for sessions please obtain one before our session.  Please be aware that a preauthorization does not guarantee payment.  It is best to speak with a service representative at your insurance company to learn their policy on behavioral health coverage since you will be responsible for the cost of any services they do not cover.

I believe that treatment is most effective when it is not made a part of legal disputes.  If I am required to take part in such actions, my fee for any and all time participating in these actions, travel and preparing materials is $100. per hour for all time spent unless we have made a prior arrangement in writing.  These charges are not covered by your insurance.

If you need to cancel an appointment please call my answering service at least 24 hours before your appointment.  My service is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week.  Clients failing to keep appointments, or not canceling at least 24 hours in advance, may be charged the full client fee.  This is not billable to your insurance company so you will be responsible for the full fee.
